Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television reporter, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief reporter for Congress. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. She traveled together with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss issues like and the Iran Contra controversy.
